TBAM24: What was it like being the younger sister of Jem? What kind of big brother was he?
Scout: Well, Jem overall was a good brother. He most of the time looked out for me, played with me, and just treated me how a little sister should be treated. IT was when he started to become “mature” that we lost touch. He stopped playing with me, made fun of me a lot and told me to grow up, and treated me horribly. Though he was hard at times, I know he still loves me and I know he is a great big brother.


TBAM24: what was it like growing up without a mother?
Scout: Well to me it wasn’t that much different just because I never met her. She died when I was real young so I never really knew the difference in having or not having a mom. Plus Calpurnia acted just as much a mom as anyone else would.

TBAM24: How did you feel about Atticus defending Tom Robinson?
Scout: To be honest it didn’t affect me one bit. I didn’t really know what was going on so just didn’t really pay any attention to it.

TBAM24: what would your reaction be if Atticus got remarried?
Scout: That would be awesome! I don’t know if he would ever find the right girl but if did, he better marry her in a Heartbeat!

TBAM24: Who do you think was putting the items in the hole in the tree?
Scout: shoot I have no clue but hey I liked the stuff he was putting in it, especially that gum!


TBAM24: Do you think you and Dill will ever get married?
Scout: oh I hope so. He’s a great guy and I always have fun with him. Plus, if we ever get in a fight I can jus beat him up and have my way (Laughter).

TBAM24: If you could change one thing about Maycomb, what would it be?
Scout: Absolutely nothing. Maycomb is my home, good or bad, and always will be.



Last week when I was in Maycomb, Alabama I got the chance to talk to a small town girl named Scout. Scout grew up as a normal girl. Played around the town, always had fun, got into to a little trouble, but basically grew up a normal life. Never having a lot she lived life day by day. Having an older brother and a dad, Scout had tomboy written all over her. She respected everyone and hated no one. Though she grew up without a mom, she never let it affect her. “To be honest it didn’t really have an impact on me,” Scout said, “since I never really knew my mom, I didn’t know the difference in growing up with or without her.” Scouts main past time was hanging out with her brother Jem. Scout was just as much a boy as him. They did everything together from playing in the mud or spying on the crazy neighbor Boo Radley. “Well, Jem overall was a good brother. Through it all she explained her crazy fun life and how she enjoyed it each and every day. Scout was the true American girl.
